Refund & Cancellation Policy

This policy explains how cancelling and refunds work for PCGuard plans sold by PCGuard (“we”, “us”). It is part of our Terms of Service. Nothing in it affects your statutory rights as a consumer.

1At a glance#

  • 7-day refund on the first payment of a Starter or Family subscription, and on the payment for a lifetime licence where we sell one.
  • Renewals are not refunded, but you can cancel at any time and keep access until the end of the period you have already paid for.
  • Extra child-PC slots added during a billing period are charged pro rata by Stripe and are not refundable once that period has started.
  • Complimentary plans that we grant involve no payment, so there is nothing to refund.
  • To ask for a refund, email [email protected] from your account email address within 7 days of your first payment.

2Plans this policy covers#

  • Starter (Direct) and Family (Cloud) monthly subscriptions, paid through Stripe. Prices are shown in US dollars and Stripe shows the final total, including any tax, before you pay.
  • Extra child-PC slots, which are part of the same subscription (the subscription quantity), not a separate purchase.
  • Lifetime licences for Direct mode, where we sell them. A lifetime licence is described in our Terms of Service.
  • Complimentary plans we grant without payment, for example to beta testers.

3Your 14-day cancellation right#

Under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013, a consumer who buys online normally has 14 days to cancel. If you ask for digital content or a digital service to start during those 14 days, and acknowledge that you lose the right to cancel once it starts, the right ends when access begins.

PCGuard starts as soon as your payment is confirmed. So before you can pay, we ask you to tick a box confirming that you:

  • agree to the Terms of Service and this Refund Policy;
  • ask for access to start straight away; and
  • understand that you lose your 14-day right to cancel once access starts, but can still get a refund within 7 days of your first payment.

Stripe's checkout page repeats this statement next to the payment button. We keep a record of your acceptance (the date and time and the policy version) with your account. Customers in the European Union have a similar right of withdrawal, and the same acknowledgement applies.

In place of the 14-day cancellation right, we offer a voluntary 7-day refund on your first payment. It is explained in the next section.

47-day refund on your first payment#

You can get a full refund if you ask within 7 days of:

  • the first payment for a Starter or Family subscription, including any extra child-PC slots you chose at checkout as part of that payment; or
  • the payment for a lifetime licence, where we sell one.

The 7 days run from the payment date on your Stripe receipt. We refund the full amount to the original payment method through Stripe. Your bank or card issuer usually shows it within 5 to 10 business days.

When we refund a subscription we also cancel it. Parent sign-in, remote control and Cloud access end, and the Parent apps stop accepting the licence when they next check it. Rules that are already on the child PC keep running there until you remove PCGuard Child.

5Renewals and how to cancel#

Subscriptions renew automatically each month until you cancel. Renewal payments are not refunded. You can cancel at any time and you keep access until the end of the period you have paid for. You will not be charged again.

How to cancel

  1. Sign in to the web dashboard, or open the account section of PCGuard Parent for Windows or Android.
  2. Choose Manage subscription. This opens Stripe's secure billing portal.
  3. Choose Cancel subscription and confirm. Stripe shows the date your access ends.

After the paid period ends, Parent sign-in and remote control stop. Blocked apps, bedtime and website rules that already live on the child PC keep working locally. You can subscribe again at any time.

6Extra child-PC slots#

You can add child-PC slots at checkout or later from your account. Adding slots later is confirmed in Stripe's billing portal. Stripe then immediately charges a pro-rata amount for the rest of the current billing period. From the next renewal, the slots are included in your monthly price.

Pro-rata charges for extra slots are not refundable once the billing period they cover has started. Slots you chose at checkout are part of your first payment, so the 7-day refund covers them.

If you remove slots, Stripe may work out a credit for the unused time. That credit stays on your Stripe customer balance and is used against future invoices. It is not paid back to your card.

7Complimentary and granted plans#

Plans we grant without payment, including complimentary lifetime licences for Direct mode, have no payment to refund. We may end or change a complimentary plan as described in our Terms of Service.

8How to request a refund#

  1. Email [email protected] from the email address you use for your PCGuard account, within 7 days of the payment.
  2. Tell us the date and amount of the payment, or the receipt number from Stripe's email.
  3. We confirm the refund by email and cancel the subscription.

If you write from a different address, we may ask you to confirm that you own the account before we act.

9If something goes wrong#

Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, digital content must be of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose and as described, and services must be provided with reasonable care and skill. If PCGuard does not meet these standards, you may be entitled to a repair, a replacement, a price reduction or a refund, whether or not the 7-day window has passed. Contact us and we will put it right.

10Changes to this policy#

We may update this policy. The date at the top shows when it last changed. A change does not affect payments made before it. If a change matters for your next checkout, we will ask you to accept the new version then.

11Contact#
